After
waking up due to being frightened during sleep
1) ‘Amru bin Shu’ayb reported from his father, from his
grandfather, who said that: “The
Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم used to teach
us words for us to say after waking up due to being frightened (during sleep):
(( I seek refuge by the
complete, perfect words of Allaah, from His anger and the evil of His ‘ibaad
(slaves), and from the prodding of the shayaateen and that they be
present. )) [1]
2) Another narration with a slightly different wording: “When
you go to your bed, then say:
(( I seek refuge by the
complete, perfect words of Allaah, from His anger and His punishment, and the
evil of His ‘ibaad (slaves), and from the prodding of the shayaateen and
that they be present.)) ” [2]
·
“Khaalid
binul-Waleed رضي الله عنه used to
have insomnia, or was afflicted with insomnia, so he complained to the Prophet
وسلم, so he ordered him to seek refuge when
going to sleep by ‘the complete, perfect words of Allaah….” to the end of the hadeeth.
·
Shaykh al-Albaanee mentions as a support for this narration
the narration reported by ‘Amru bin Shu’ayb, from his father, from his
grandfather, who said: “The Messenger of
Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم used to
teach us words for us to say when going to sleep (after waking) from being
frightened (during sleep):
((
Bismillaah, I seek refuge by the complete,
perfect words of Allaah….)) to the end of the hadeeth. [3]
3) Khaalid
“I used to wake up suddenly (from fright) in the night, so I came to the
Prophet صلى
الله عليه وسلم, so I said: Verily I wake up suddenly,
afraid in the night, so I grab my sword and do not come across anything except
that I strike it with my sword, so the Messenger of Allaah
وسلم said: “Should I not
teach you some words that Ar-Rooh Al-Ameen [i.e. Jibreel عليه السلام] taught me? Say:
(( I seek refuge by the complete, perfect
words of Allaah, which no
righteous one nor wicked one can exceed, from the evil of what descends from the heavens, and
from the evil of what ascends to them, and from the evil of the fitan of the
night and the day, and from the evil of everyone who comes knocking, except for
the one who comes knocking with khayr, O Rahmaan!
)) [4]

Aboo Salamah said: I heard Qataadah say:
I heard the Messenger of Allaah
say: “Ar-Ru’yaa
(the good dream) is from Allaah, and al-Hulm (the bad dream) is from
shaytaan, so if one of you sees something he dislikes then let him spit
lightly to his left three times when he awakens, and seek protection by Allaah from
its evil, for indeed it will not harm him.” Aboo Salamah
said: I used to consider the ru’yah heavier upon me than a mountain, but
it is not except that that I heard this hadeeth that now I’m not
concerned by it. [5]
And in one of the
wordings with Muslim: “the good ru’yaa is from
Allaah and the bad ru’yaa is from shaytaan, so, if one of you sees
something from it he dislikes then let him spit lightly to his left three times
when he awakens, and let him seek protection by Allaah from shaytaan,
(and) it will not harm him. And let him not tell anyone about it. And if he sees a good ru’yaa, then let him
rejoice and not inform except those he loves.”
And in another
wording: “…and let him turn over from the side
that he was lying upon.” [6]
